Sameer Aurora

Sameer Aurora is an independent curator, art advisor, and cultural-sector consultant whose curatorial practice foregrounds artists engaging questions of displacement, cultural memory, reconciliation, and social experience. His perspective is informed by extensive experience across commercial galleries, nonprofit cultural development, and the broader arts ecosystem. Through Aurora Projects, Sameer supports artists, collectors, and cultural organizations through exhibition development, collection-building, and strategic advisory. His work is grounded in the belief that thoughtful exhibitions should foster meaningful encounters among artists, audiences, and the communities that sustain cultural life—deepening how we understand one another and the world we share.

This selection brings together nine artists who transform materials around inherited stories to negotiate questions of memory, displacement, and belonging. Working across media, including textiles, found objects, painting, film, sculpture and performance, they explore how these materials carry intimate and collective histories. Their practices foreground the body as a repository of experience and living record of complex and intersectional identities. Drawing on ancestral memories, recognized in their use of salvaged refuse, wax, thread, fruit, paper, and other domestic and ritual objects, these artists resist fixed narratives for more porous spaces of transformation.
