Cassie Packard

Cassie Packard is a Brooklyn-based art writer and editor whose work has appeared in Aperture, Artforum, ArtReview, BOMB, e-flux, Financial Times, Los Angeles Review of Books, T: The New York Times Style Magazine, and frieze, where she is a reviews editor. She received the 2024 Rabkin Prize for art writing and is the author of Art Rules (2023). She is a frequent lecturer and visiting critic, has held fellowships at The Art & Law Program, Momus, and Recess, and holds degrees in art history from University College London and Brown University.

In their socially minded practices, the artists gathered here go beyond exposing the structural violences of extractivism, colonialism, imperialism, racism, and ableism. They intervene in the very systems – legal, pedagogical, economic, archival – routinely put in service of these violences and their necropolitical logics, identifying critical openings for resistance and repair. The technologies these artists use to jam or irritate systems of power are as varied as their targets: architectural intervention and mycelial remediation, appropriated regulatory language and appropriated monuments, new schools and new archives. Together, they make other futures possible.
