Inside the Artist’s Studio Documentary

Cheryl Molnar is a collage artist, curator and creative director living and working in New York City. Her collage-paintings depict improbable landscapes of memory as we contend with the impacts of gentrification, displacement, and climate change. Molnar merges landscape photography and architectural imagery to create re-imagined landscapes that highlight the often chaotic relationship between nature and man-made structures. She draws from both Long Island and southern California where she has family roots.

Molnar is represented by C24 Gallery and her work has been exhibited across the U.S. including Smack Mellon in New York, The University of Arizona, The Islip Art Museum on Long Island and the General Electric Headquarters in CT . She holds an MFA from Pratt Institute and a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design. She is currently a member artist at the Elizabeth Foundations for the Arts and has held residencies at Cooper Union, Smack Mellon, Weir Farm, Wave Hill and Fire Island National Seashore. She has also been a visiting teaching artist at Guild Hall on Long Island and an adjust professor in the School of Arts and Sciences at Adelphi University. She has made her curatorial debut at the SPRINGBREAK/ Art Show 2023. Notable collections featuring her work include Cantor Fitzgerald and Microsoft.

She has completed several large-scale public art projects. The Los Angeles Municipal Arts Council commissioned her to create a custom mosaic for the High Desert Restorative Care Center in Lancaster, California. In New York she was commissioned by Percent for Art and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs to create a 43-foot mural for PS19Q in Corona, Queens.
